The Dallas Lace Society

Second Quarter Newsletter
November 2017

Letter from the President

Dear DLS Members,

Here we are already well into the last quarter of our year! That Christmas lace exchange will be here before we know it. Our Christmas party is planned for December 9 at the library from 11 AM to 3 PM, our regular second Saturday meeting day so we will not be making lace that day. We’ll be partying and feasting on our potluck luncheon. Stacy will be organizing the decorations and sending an email about the potluck.

During the party door prizes donated by members are given which can be any item you would like to donate. Please wrap or sack the item as we pick blind and then see what surprise we got. Raffle tickets are sold for items
donated by members too. Many of us have added to our lace supplies from
these generously donated raffle items. Then there is the lace exchange – wrap a lace piece that you have made and sneak it onto the table. Anyone who puts a piece of lace in then gets to pick a package containing a piece of lace made by another member. It is so fun to see what everyone has made.

We had a great demo day at the State Fair. There was a lot of interest in our lacing and we got to use our new banner for the first time. What a great idea Stacy had. The lace letters showed well and looked beautiful.

Kelly Day and Arthiss Kliever were battling for first and second place in Interpretation and Original categories. Kelly first for Interpretation with her star and Arthiss first for Original with her angels. Kelly second with her very original Longhorn and Arthiss with her excellent tapelace interpretation. Kathy Morris’s lovely Honiton Coneflower won third place in Interpretation and Lisa Neidinger’s beautiful needle lace won a third place. Congratulations to all and I hope for more entries next year.

Arthiss, our talented display case creator, will be asking for items to use for our lace display at the Lancaster library in February. Hopefully we can pick a day when we can all go out to see the display together.

Two years have flown by and it is time for the election of our officers to serve for the next two fiscal years, beginning 1/1/18, as our Executive Board. The elected officers are President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Fortunately for all of us Debbie and Linda have offered to continue to serve as Secretary and Treasurer. Arthiss does not wish to continue as Vice President. I know all of you, as do I, thank these members for their dedicated and cheerful service to DLS. An email with the slate of officers will be sent soon for you to cast your vote.

Hope to see you soon,
Marilyn
